Toughbook Torture Test - PART 3 - Pressure, vibration and drops.

One of the reasons the fully rugged models of Panasonic Toughbook CF-19, CF-30 & CF-31 are counted on by the police, military and EMT's is that they can survive being dropped onto concrete or the abuse of a tiger mauling it or even an elephant stand on it!

The magnesium alloy case of a Toughbook is 20x stronger then the cheap plastic you will find on most "Made in China" cheap consumer laptops. That is the main reason it candle handle ridiculous amounts of pressure. There are even some crazy guys on YouTube that drive their cars over them and the Toughbook still survives! ( This is NOT recommended)

Check out how this Toughbook CF-30 handles the animal abuse..

This Panasonic Toughbook CF-31 gets dropped over 26x from 6' high !

The Panasonic Toughbook CF-19 CF-30 and CF-31 has drop shock protection and a MIL-STD-810G rating. Learn more about this on Wikipedia. "MIL-STD-810 is maintained by a Tri-Service partnership that includes the USAF, the US Army, and the US Navy"

"MIL-STD-810G implements Test Method 527 calling for the use of multiple vibration exciters to perform multi-axis shaking that simultaneously excites all test article resonances and simulates real-world vibrations. This approach replaces the legacy approach of three distinct tests, i.e., shaking a load first in its x axis, then its y axis, and finally in its z axis."

For the Toughbook to qualify for the MIL-STD-810G rating these are the tests it must pass::

Low Pressure, High and low temperatures, Contamination by Fluids, Solar Radiation, Rain, Humidity, Fungus, Salt Fog, Sand and Dust,

Explosive atmosphere, Immersion, Acceleration, Vibration, Acoustic Noise, Shock, Pyroshock, Acidic Atmosphere, Gunfire Shock, Temperature, Humidity,

Vibration, and Altitude, Icing/Freezing Rain, Ballistic Shock, Vibro-Acoustic/Temperature, Freeze / Thaw, Time Waveform Replication (is that time travel?) Rail Impact. Multi-Exciter, Mechanical Vibrations of Shipboard Equipment.

Your vibrating car ain't got nothing on this brutal vibration test.

The only warning I can make, is that if you intend to mount a Panasonic Toughbook CF-19, CF-30 or CF-31 in your car. Is for you to upgrade to an SSD hard drive that has no moving parts! The older SATA hard drives have platters that spin over 3600 rpm. And if your car, RV, Humvee hits a rough spot, that sharp jolt can damage your Sata hard drive = your data = your potential loss of sanity, time, data and money. It is not worth the risk.

Other reasons to choose an SSD over a SATA hard drive?

• Speed: This is where SSDs shine. A SATA hard drive requires more time to speed up to operating specs, and will continue to be slower. SSD boots faster, launches and runs apps faster, and transfers files faster.

• Durability: An SSD has no moving parts, so it is more likely to keep your data safe in the event you drop your laptop

• Noise: SSD's are super quiet! All SATA hard drives will emit a bit of noise... but SSDs make no noise at all, since they're non-mechanical.

•Overall: SSD's are faster, more rugged, lighter form factor, make no noise, or fragmentation (technically part of speed). The only downfall is they are more expensive to the older slower SATA hard drives.
